Kies Family Wines expands to include neighbouring vineyard

Kies Family Wines has recently expanded it’s vineyard holdings to include the neighbouring Ahrens vineyard, which comprises 32 hectares.

THE VINES:
The vineyard includes 20.6 hectares of Shiraz and 8.4 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, which will help the Kies family to expand it’s offerings with those two grape varieties.

THE EXPANSION:
Previously the Kies Family Wines vineyard owned by Michael and Tina Kies spanned 28 hectares and was made up of 85% Shiraz, and the remainder Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Frontignac.

With the addition of the new vineyard the total holdings are 60 hectares.

Construction of the new winery next to the cellar door, coincides with vintage 2020, where Bronson Kies (6th generation) will be at the helm, making the wines.

The winery will allow Kies Family Wines to expand its tourism offering by allowing visitors an insight into the wine making process, with a purpose built viewing platform included in the design.

OWNERSHIP:
Kies Family Wines is 100% family owned, with Directors Michael and Tina Kies very active in all facets of the business; Michael with his management of the vineyard and Tina with the management of the cellar door and tourism centre.

6th generation family members Bronson and Jesseca Kies are also involved in the business; Bronson with his future wine making endeavours and Jesseca with sales and marketing.

FUN FACT:
50 years ago (1969) Ken Kies, the founder of Kies Family Wines started making wine in Lyndoch under the Karrawirra and Red Gum labels.

As fate has it, his grandson Bronson, completed his wine making degree exactly 50 years later.
